Women's Cross Country races for 2024 HBCUAC Championship

The Wiley University women's cross country team heads to Danville, Alabama, to compete for the 2024 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Cross Country Championship hosted by Decatur Morgan County Tourism at the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center Course at 11 a.m. Friday.

The six-kilometer race will be streamed on HBCU-Plus, which can be viewed online. Users can also download the free app on their mobile devices or Smart TVs. Live results will also be available.

The Lady Wildcats prepared for the championship by competing in five meets, mostly against National Collegiate Athletic Association Schools. JaKatelyn Thomas led the team in three meets and ran a personal best of 26:28 in the five-kilometer race at Dallas Baptist University's Old Glory Gallop on October 5. She earned HBCUAC Runner of the Week for September 30-October 6. Remi Pierre, who is running in her first season, led the Lady Wildcats with a personal record of 26:40 at Ouachita Baptist University's Tiger Invitational on October 11.

Jean-Marie Farinha is in her third season with the Lady Wildcats. Her fastest time this season was 27:20 at the DBU Old Glory Gallop. Kyla Deyon ran a season-best 32:31 at the Ouachita Baptist Tiger Invitational. LaDaija Thomas, competing in her first season, ran 34:24 at the Texas Christian University John McKenzie Invitational on August 31.

The Lady Wildcats seek their first conference title since 2014 when they won the Red River Athletic Conference. This will be their third time competing for the HBCUAC Championship, previously the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
