Women's Cross Country completes SU Showdown

GEORGETOWN, Texas - September 14, 2024 - The Wiley University women's cross country team ran its longest race of the season at the 2024 Southwestern University Showdown on Saturday.

The six-kilometer race, the same distance as the 2024 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Championship, was on an old golf course and went around the Southwestern University athletic facilities. The Lady Wildcats mostly competed against NCAA Division III schools.

For the second consecutive meet, JaKatelyn Thomas led the team at 33:39.5. Kaiden Taylor followed at 37:18.6. Kyla Deyon (41:22.2), Ariel Johnson (47:17.5) and LaDaija Thomas (47:41.7) rounded out Wiley's finishers.

The Lady Wildcats won't run until October 5 when it competes in Dallas Baptist University's Old Glory Gallop.

"I feel great about where the team is," said head coach Christopher McConnell. "We're ahead of where we were at this time last year. Our focus will be on improving our times."
