
Freshmen Thomas, Pierre lead Lady Wildcats at UT-Tyler Season Opener
Wiley University women's cross country freshmen runners JaKatelyn Thomas and Remi Pierre ran the fastest times on the team in their collegiate debuts at the University of Texas at Tyler's Season Opener Saturday at Texas Rose Horse Park.
Thomas finished the five-kilometer course, which featured rolling hills in 27:36.7. Pierre ran 28:45.1. Jean-Marie Farinha followed at 29:00.3. Kaiden Taylor (30:34) and Kyla Deyon (34:52) rounded out Wiley's top five finishers.
"We were full strength this week and ran decent," head coach Christopher McConnell said. "We're going to continue to improve and prepare for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities championship."
The Lady Wildcats will travel to Georgetown, Texas, for the Southwestern University Showdown on September 14.
