Volleyball gears up for 2024 Finale against Texas A&M University-Texarkana
In a thrilling conclusion to their season, the Wiley University volleyball team faces off against Texas A&M University-Texarkana at 6 p.m. Friday in the Patterson Student Center.
The match will stream on Texarkana's KLFI TV You Tube Channel and live statistics will also be provided. The links can be found in the volleyball schedule on wileyathletics.com. The Lady Wildcats (3-15, 3-11 HBCUAC) hopes to finish the season strong after missing postseason for the first time since 2005. Wiley hasn't closed the regular season with a victory since 2022.
The upcoming encounter will mark the third meeting between the Lady Wildcats and Eagles. Each team won on their home court in 2022 with Wiley pulling out a five-set victory and Texas A&M-Texarkana winning in straight sets..
The Eagles (17-10, 13-1 RRAC), present a formidable challenge. Their roster includes standout players like Kaitlyn Cabral who ranks third in the Red River Athletic Conference with 247 kills and senior middle blocker Ja'Kerra Holt, who is third in the conference with 77 blocks. Texas A&M-Texarkana will close the regular season on Friday at Texas College and then head to the RRAC Volleyball Championship.
For Wiley, key players such as Shyla Starks, who leads the team with 127 kills, and sophomore setter Maria Luiza Chaves, with 200 assists, are expected to play crucial roles. Freshman Madisyn Moore has 69 kills and 20 blocks in her first season. The match represents not just a chance for a win but an opportunity for the Lady Wildcats to demonstrate their growth and tenacity throughout the season.
