Jackson, Cortez win GCAC Weekly Awards

Wiley College volleyball players LeAndria Jackson and Nadia Cortez were selected as the top players in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with Jackson earning Setter of the Week and Cortez Defender of the Week for October 2-8.

Jackson recorded 102 assists in 11 sets for an average of 9.27 per set. She recorded season highs of 34 assists against Centenary College on Wednesday and topped it with 39 assists at Tougaloo College on Friday. Jackson contributed 21 digs and four kills.

Cortez tallied 63 digs for the week, averaging 5.73 per set. She recorded a career-high 29 digs against Centenary College on Wednesday and followed with 20 against Tougaloo College on Friday. She has recorded 20 or more digs in three of her last four matches. She helped offensively with nine assists and five service aces.

These are the first weekly awards for the Lady Wildcats this season. They picked up their third win against Tougaloo College and resume GCAC play against Fisk University on Saturday.
