Women's Soccer dominates Tougaloo College for first win since 2018

Wiley University women's soccer players Deyanara Hernandez and Yajaira Hernandez recorded hat tricks to lead the Lady Wildcats to an 18-1 rout over Tougaloo College in a Continental Athletic Conference match Sunday at Pemberton Field.

The victory is the program's first since October 22, 2018. The eighteen goals nearly doubled the program's record of 10 set in 2016. The Lady Wildcats also set a program record for margin of victory. Head coach Andrew Benitez-Piraino picked up his first career victory.

"I'm very proud of the women," Benitez said. "We are starting to develop chemistry. We're going to build on this win."

Deyanara set a program record for goals in a single game with five, bringing her total to six for the season. She scored in the fifth, 11th, 35th, 73rd and 74th minutes. Yajaira Hernandez, honored during the Senior Day ceremony before the match, found the back of the net for the first time in her career in the 35th, 38th and 55th minutes.

Senior Esmeralda Vazquez netted her first career goals in the 22nd and 41st minutes. Samantha Rodriguez started the scoring in the fourth minute and added another goal in the fifth. Wiley scored six goals in the first 15 minutes of the match and had 11 at halftime. Ten players scored goals. Destiny Allison picked up her first career victory as a goalkeeper. She only faced two shots.

The Lady Wildcats (1-3, 1-0 CAC) will travel to Austin College for a 6 p.m. match on Thursday.
