FT. WORTH, Texas - August 27, 2024 - The Wiley University women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit in a 5-0 loss against Texas Wesleyan University Monday at Martin Field.
The Lady Wildcats (0-3-0) played even in the first 32 minutes. Leah Ramirez started at goalkeeper and stopped her first two shots. Nadia Hernandez and Esmeralda Vazquez put shots on goal. In the 33rd minute, the Lady Rams took the lead and outshot Wiley 10-2 the rest of the half. With less than two minutes remaining, Wiley fell behind by two.
Hopes of a second-half comeback were quickly extinguished as Texas Wesleyan added goals in the 55th and 58th minutes. The Lady Wildcats were outshot 17-4 in the second half and 29-8 for the game. Hernandez put two shots on goal. Samantha Rodriguez had two shots, one of which was on goal. Yajaira Hernandez and Nadia Cortez also put shots on goal.
Destiny Allison took over at the net in the second half and stopped seven of 10 shots. Ramirez made four saves on six shots in the first half. The Lady Wildcats will return home on September 6 and host Arlington Baptist University at 2 p.m.
