Women's Basketball travels to Wilberforce for HBCUAC Crossover
The Wiley University women's basketball heads to Wilberforce for four games against the East Division in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Crossover Friday through Tuesday at Wilberforce University and Athletes in Action.
The Lady Wildcats open with the host Lady Bulldogs at noon on Friday. They will face Rust College at 4 p.m. Saturday at Athletes in Action. Following an off day on Sunday, Wiley will wrap with Fisk University at 4 p.m. Monday at Athletes in Action and Voorhees University at noon Tuesday at Wilberforce University. Wiley (2-7, 0-3 HBCUAC) has won two of its last three games, with its latest on December 3 at Arlington Baptist University. Jessica Nerestant posted double-doubles in two of her previous three games and is averaging 16.6 points and 12.3 rebounds. Mary Leday increased her scoring with 13.3 points per game in her most recent four.
The Lady Wildcats are seeking their first conference victory since January 20. They also seek their first wins against Rust College and Fisk University. Friday will mark the first time Wiley has played Wilberforce and Tuesday's game will be the first meeting against Voorhees.
Wilberforce (2-7, 1-4 HBCUAC) picked up its first conference win against Talladega on Saturday, snapping a seven-game losing streak. Constance Chaplin leads the team with 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Makayla Tucker follows with 12. 2 points per game.
Rust (3-7, 2-2 HBCUAC) won its last two conference games against Wilberforce and Oakwood University. Patsy Johnson leads the team with 15 points per game. Michaela Payton is averaging 12.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Fisk (4-5, 4-1 HBCUAC) is on a three-game winning streak in conference play. Jayla Bibbs averages 12 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. She is the reigning HBCUAC Defensive Player of the Week. Dee Scott is tallying 10.3 points and eight rebounds per game.
Voorhees (6-1, 2-1) split its last two conference games with a win against Wilberforce and a loss against Fisk. Ty'Shemia Bunkley leads the team with 16.3 points and 3.9 three-pointers made per game. Alyssa Herder is averaging 11.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
