Women's Basketball Dominates Arlington Baptist

ARLINGTON, Texas - Five Wiley University women's basketball players scored in double digits as the Lady Wildcats cruised to an 89-42 victory over Arlington Baptist University Tuesday at the J. Frank Norris Auditorium.

Emilee Proctor led the Lady Wildcats with a season-high 15 points. She hit 7 of 10 shots and added three rebounds and three steals. Jessica Nerestant followed with 14 points and nine rebounds. Tamia Dolls matched her season-high of 14 points, adding five assists and three steals. Celebria Peacock provided 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. Mary Leday contributed 10 points, five assists and three steals. Elizabeth Camacho led the team with 13 rebounds and finished two points short of a double-double with eight.

The Lady Wildcats (2-7, 0-3 HBCUAC) outshot the Lady Patriots 45.5 to 25.5 percent. They outrebounded them 53-31 and scored 16 second-chance points. The turnover battle went to Wiley, which forced 26 with 20 off steals, leading to 26 points.

Wiley took control with a 12-point run in the first quarter, holding Arlington Baptist scoreless for over six minutes. Camacho scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds in the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats lead 22-10 after the first.

In the second quarter, they maintained a double-digit lead. Arlington Baptist's largest run was six points, which cut the margin to 11. Kewaysha Alsup hit a jumper and Peacock made two shots to increase the lead to 17. Nerestant hit a second-chance jumper to give Wiley a 43-24 halftime lead.

A layup by Nerestant pushed the margin to 21 at the beginning of the second half. A jumper by Proctor increased the lead to 30 with 2:52 left in the third. A jump shot by Mya Jones put the Lady Wildcats ahead by 40 with 2:07 left in the game. Nine of Wiley's 10 players scored.

The Lady Wildcats will return to the court on December 13 when they open their first Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference against Wilberforce University.
