Women's Basketball falls at Tougaloo College in HBCUAC Clash

TOUGALOO, Miss. - On a challenging day for Wiley University's women's basketball team, Saturday, marked a significant setback as they were defeated 70-47 by the Tougaloo College in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) game held in Kroger Gymnasium.

Despite the valiant efforts of Mary Leday, who led the team with 11 points, the Wildcats struggled to establish their rhythm from the onset.
Tougaloo seizing early momentum by netting the first six points. The Lady Bulldogs' aggressive play continued, catching Wiley off-guard and fulfilling a dominant first quarter, where the Wildcats made just three out of 17 shot attempts.

This strength enabled Tougaloo to expand their lead substantially in the second quarter with a penetrative 14-point run, amplifying their upper hand to 20 points by halftime, indicated by the daunting halftime score of 35-18.

In the second quarter, Wiley's offensive struggles became more pronounced as they were held scoreless for over seven minutes, contributing to its displacing performance leading to an insurmountable Tougaloo lead by the end of the night.

The Lady Wildcats (0-6, 0-3) were outshot 38.8 to 32.2 percent. They were dominated on the glass 47-24 which led to 19 second chance points for Tougaloo. They were edged in the turnover battle 17-15 but outscored 25-12 in points off turnovers.

Jessica Nerestant contributed six points, nine rebounds, and two blocks, while Tamia Doll added seven points matched with three rebounds and three steals.

Wiley University looks forward to rebounding as they host Dallas Christian College at the Alumni Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats face significant challenges ahead but remain committed to improving their standings within the HBCUAC.
