Women's Basketball opens HBCUAC Play against SUNO, Dillard
The Wiley University basketball team tips off Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) play against Southern University at New Orleans on Thursday and Dillard University on Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.
Thursday's game tips at 5 p.m. and Saturday's at 1 p.m. Both contests will stream on HBCU-Plus, a free streaming app that can be viewed online or the app can be downloaded on mobile devices or Smart TVs.
The Lady Wildcats (0-3) still seek their first victory after falling 65-47 against Huston-Tillotson University on November 9. Zacyria Dozier led the team with 10 points in her first action of the season. Elizabeth Camacho grabbed seven rebounds and recorded three assists. Maya Jones blocked five shots in her debut.
Southern University at New Orleans (1-5) is coming off its first victory on November 9 against Thomas University. Jordan Harris leads the team with 14 points per game. Freshmen Jakhiya Smith and Kyren Wilson follow at 11.8 and 9.2 points per game, respectively. Jinaye Pittman, who played for the Lady Wildcats last season leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game.
Dillard (2-1) won their first two games of the season over Louisiana Christian University and College of Biblical Studies on November 5 and 9. Cassidy Lowe, who was selected as the 2024-25 HBCUAC Preseason Player of the Year is averaging 15 points and 2.3 blocks per game. D'Mya Ferguson and Jordan Rowe follow with 12 and 11.7 points per game, respectively. Ferguson leads in rebounds with 7.3 per game. Imani Rothschild is averaging five assists per game. Skyler Christmas leads the team with 2.3 steals per game.
Wiley has won all eight meetings against SUNO, including last season's opening round game in the 2024 conference tournament. The Lady Wildcats have claimed 10 of 17 games against Dillard. The teams split last season's meetings with both winning on the road.
