Women's Basketball falls in season opener at Langston
LANGSTON, Okla. - The Wiley University women's basketball team could not execute offensively in a 91-28 season-opening loss against Langston University Thursday at C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse.
It's the first time the Lady Wildcats have fallen in their season opener since 2021. They shot 15 percent from the field (9-for-57) with 28 attempts from 3-point territory - only hitting two. Wiley turned the ball over 25 times, leading to 29 points for the Lady Lions.
Celebria Peacock and Jessica Nerestant led the team in scoring with seven points each. Elizabeth Camacho led the team with eight rebounds. Mary Leday and Erin Love tallied assists. Nerestant recorded two steals. Kewaysha Alsup and Nyathiel Wal each blocked a shot.
Wiley (0-1) struck first but only made one field goal in the first quarter and was held scoreless for over four minutes. It didn't make another field goal until Peacock hit a 3-pointer in the first minute of the second quarter. This allowed Langston to build a double-digit advantage and add to it.
The Lady Wildcats will open its home schedule with its Homecoming Game at 2 p.m. on November 2 against Texas Wesleyan University in Alumni Gymnasium. The Rams were picked to finish fifth in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
