Women's Basketball outlasts Tougaloo College

Four Wiley University women's basketball players scored in double figures, as the Lady Wildcats overcame losing a double-digit lead in a 90-81 overtime victory over Tougaloo College in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Lady Wildcats (10-5, 5-2 GCAC) improve to 6-1 at home with their fourth straight victory over the Lady Bulldogs. This was their first overtime game this season.

Jamiya Eaddy led Wiley with 23 points, marking her fourth game with 20 or more points. She was a rebound short of a double-double with nine - sharing the team lead with Elizabeth Camacho. Kiersten Harris and Jay'lann Myles followed with 19. Harris set a career-high with her point total while adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Myles contributed seven rebounds and two assists. Minnie Miller had her highest offensive output with 13 points. She added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Harris hit three shots to give Wiley an early lead. She scored 12 in the first quarter - hitting five of six shot attempts. The Lady Wildcats led the entire quarter and held a 20-14 lead.

They missed two shots and turned the ball over twice to start the second quarter. Tougaloo took advantage and cut the lead to one. Eaddy and Miller hit jumpers to increase the lead to five. Wiley pulled away at the end of the quarter with a 3-pointer by Eaddy and layups by Myles and Alayia Francis giving the Lady Wildcats a 39-32 halftime advantage.

They controlled the third quarter - outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 26-14. Eaddy hit a jumper and a 3-pointer to give Wiley a double-digit lead. Myles hit five shots - scoring 12 points in the quarter. Her 3-pointer near the end of the period gave Wiley a 19-point lead.

The Lady Wildcats maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the quarter. However, they were held scoreless in the last four minutes. Wiley turned the ball over five times and was called for five fouls. It also missed four crucial free throws. Tougaloo went on a 12-point run and tied the game from the free throw line with 50 seconds left. Both teams had chances to take the lead but their shots were off the mark.

Myles gave the Lady Wildcats the lead from the free throw line. She hit a 3-pointer with 1:20 remaning to increase the lead to 84-79. Miller made a layup and was fouled. She converted the 3-point play to increase the lead to seven.

Wiley continues its homestand on January 13 against Philander Smith University. The Lady Panthers defeated the GCAC leader Rust College 77-68.
