Women's Basketball falls at Fisk
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Wiley University women's basketball team struggled to hit shots in a 79-51 loss to Fisk University Thursday at Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium.
The Lady Wildcats (8-4, 3-1 GCAC) saw their winning streak end at three games as they fell to 3-4 on the road. For the second time this season, Wiley shot under 30 percent. It hit 28.8 percent (21 of 73) of its shots and was 1-for-17 from 3-point territory. Fisk shot 43.1 percent and made six of 20 three-point attempts. The Lady Wildcats were outrebounded 74-28 and outscored 25-8 in second-chance points.
Wiley briefly held the lead in the first two minutes of the game. A 9-2 run put it down by six. A 3-pointer by Eaddy and buckets by Diamond Hawthorne and Minnie Miller tied the game at 13. Elizabeth Camacho tied the game with 48 seconds left in the first. Fisk held a 19-15 lead after the first quarter.
The Lady Wildcats were unable to regain the lead in the second quarter. It pulled as close as three on a jumper by Kiersten Harris with 4:45 remaining. They would only hit one shot, which allowed Fisk to close the quarter on a 9-2 run and take a 38-28 lead into the locker room.
The shooting woes continued for Wiley in the third quarter. It didn't score until 5:37 left in the third and was held to seven points. Fisk extended the margin to 25 points.
Harris led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 10 points - hitting three of seven field goal attempts. She added two steals, a rebound and an assist. Hawthorne followed with eight points and six rebounds.
Wiley will continue its road trip on Saturday at Oakwood University. The Ambassadors fell 64-46 to Philander Smith University.
