Women's Basketball dominates Centenary

The Wiley University women's basketball team held Centenary College of Louisiana under 20 percent shooting and took control at the end of the first quarter in a 69-35 rout Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.

The victory is the fourth straight for the Lady Wildcats as they completed a perfect homestand. They held Centenary to a 17.5 shooting percentage – only allowing it to hit on 10 of its 57 field goal attempts. The Ladies missed all 12 of their 3-point attempts. Wiley shot 48.1 percent and made three of seven 3-point attempts.

Seven turnovers allowed Centenary to compete in the first quarter. A jump shot by Elizabeth Camacho gave the Lady Wildcats a 12-10 lead with 57 seconds remaining. She extended the lead with two free throws after being fouled on a second-chance opportunity. Jamiya Eaddy made an off-balance 3-pointer to increase the lead to seven.

The Lady Wildcats (5-1) took control in the second quarter as they scored the first 13 points, giving them a total run of 20. The Ladies didn't score until 4:12 left in the quarter – which was a drought of over seven minutes. They only hit one of their 13 field goal attempts. Wiley held a commanding 37-13 halftime lead.

Eaddy led the Lady Wildcats with 13 points and shared the team lead in rebounds with Diamond Hawthorne at seven. She shot 5-for-8 from the field and only played 22 points. Eaddy didn't play in the fourth quarter with the rest of Wiley University's starters. Hawthorne followed with nine points, adding two assists, two steals and two blocks to her seven rebounds. Cailan Hale and Camacho each scored eight points off the bench. All 12 Lady Wildcats scored. Kiersten Harris, Alayia Francis and Cailan Hale each had three assists. Hale added five rebounds. Asia Foster contributed three points, four rebounds and three steals.

Wiley University will head to Texas College on Friday. The teams played at Alumni Gymnasium on Tuesday with the Lady Wildcats prevailing 62-55.
