Women's Basketball hosts Jarvis Christian for 2023 Homecoming Game

The Highway 80 rivalry resumes on Saturday as the Wiley University women's basketball team hosts Jarvis Christian University for its 2023 Homecoming game at 2 p.m. inside Alumni Gymnasium.

Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door. The game will be broadcast on HBCU+ Ch. 115. Live statistics will be available as well. The links can be found in the women's basketball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 79-53 defeat at Oklahoma City University. They shot 31.6 percent from the field. Diamond Hawthorne put up 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Cailan Hale added eight points and three rebounds. Jamiya Eaddy pulled down 10 rebounds.

Saturday's game will be the season opener for Jarvis Christian, which enters its first season under Lynika Collins. The Lady Bulldogs went 6-14 last season – reaching the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. They ended the season on a six-game losing streak.

Twelve players return from last season. Faith Robinson averaged a double-double last season with 18.4 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. Jada Williams followed with 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Jazmin Sanders was the main distributor with 2.5 assists per game.

The Lady Wildcats and Lady Bulldogs will meet for the 35th time. Wiley College has dominated the series 24-10, including last season's 75-60 victory. Jarvis Christian will make their first visit to Alumni Gymnasium since 2020. It will be the second meeting between the two schools since Wiley College left the Red River Athletic Conference after the 2021-22 season.
