Men's Track and Field gear up for 2025 HBCUAC Championship
The Wiley University men's track and field team travels to Shreveport to compete for the 2025 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship Friday and Saturday at Lee Hedges Stadium.
The championship will stream on the Urban Edge Network YouTube Channel, available online or on streaming devices. Live results are also available. The link is listed in the women's track and field schedule on wileyathletics.com. Friday's field events start at 10:30 a.m. Running events will start at 1 p.m. Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m.
The Wildcats seek their first HBCUAC title and eighth in program history. Its most recent win was in 2018 when it completed a five-peat of the Red River Athletic Conference title and went on to win the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championship.
Ronald Garrett is looking to qualify for the 2025 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash. His season-best 14.54 in the hurdles was 0.04 seconds from the 'B' qualifying standard. Garrett's time of 10.72 in the 100-meter dash is 0.26 seconds from the 'B' qualifying standard. Xavier Hutchinson is looking to three-peat as the conference javelin champion. He threw a season-best 45.15 meters at the Bryan Phillips Open on Sunday.
Wiley is one of nine teams competing for the championship. It finished third last season but the meet was called off with the 5,000-meter run and 4 x 400-meter relay remaining.
