Allen qualifies for NAIA Championship in 400-meter dash

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Wiley University men's track and field team added to their NAIA National Championship team with Tyvonne Allen posting a qualifying time in the 400-meter dash on Saturday at Northwestern State University's Leon Johnson Invitational at the Walter P. Ledet Track and Field Complex.

Allen qualifies in the 400-meter dash for the second straight season. Additionally, he's a member of the Wildcats' national championship qualifying 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 400-meter relay teams. He ran 48.25 seconds, which surpassed the 'B' qualifying standard and was 0.12 seconds from the 'A' qualifying standard.

For the second straight week, Isaac Jenkins was within striking distance of qualifying for nationals in the long jump, leaping 7.09 meters on Friday. He was 0.06 meters short. Ronald Garrett, who is a national championship qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles, finished 0.17 seconds shy of the 'B' qualifying standard in the 200-meter dash at 21.57. Justice Northern followed at 21.68. Micah Ruben was 0.19 seconds from qualifying in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.76. Harold Overton III followed at 10.90.

Xavier Hutchinson jumped a season-best 13.20 meters in the triple jump. He also competed in the long jump, discus and javelin. Dantravian Sloan ran his best time in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.32. Javoun Goldsby finished runner-up in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter runs.

Next week, the Wildcats will compete at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship in Shreveport, Louisiana's Lee Hedges Stadium. They are seeking their first title since winning the Red River Athletic Conference in 2018.
