Men's Track and Field off to Bobcat Invitational
The Wiley University men's track and field team will look to add to its National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championship roster as it competes in Texas State University's Bobcat Invitational from Thursday through Saturday at the TSU Track and Field Complex.
Live results are available at https://results.adkinstrak.com/meets/31934. The meet starts at 9 a.m. Thursday with the discus throw. It will conclude on Saturday with the 4 x 400-meter relay.
The Wildcats have qualified for nationals in three events. At the Prairie View A&M relays the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Micah Ruben, Ronald Garrett, Justice Northern and Tyvonne Allen ran 41.40, meeting the 'B' qualifying standard. The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Garrett, Northern, Allen and Jaylon Donson surpassed the 'A' qualifying standard with a time of 3:14.69, which ranks second in the NAIA. Garrett qualified for nationals in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.58 at the McNeese State University Cowboy Relays on March 9.
Allen is looking to qualify in the 400-meter dash for the second straight season. He will run at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday. He ran 50.01 at the Jim Mize Invitational, which was 1.62 seconds short of the 'B' qualifying standard. Garrett will look to top his personal best in the 110-meter hurdles at 3 p.m. Saturday. On Friday, he seeks to post a national championship qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles. Last week, he ran a personal best of 54.86 which was 0.26 seconds shy of the 'B' qualifying standard. Wiley will look to improve its times in the 4 x 100-meter relay at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday and the 4 x 400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m.
In field events, Isaac Jenkins will compete in the high jump and long jump. His height of 1.85 meters last week is 0.17 shy of the 'B' qualifying standard. Ruben is 0.3 meters from the 'B' qualifying standard in the long jump. Xavier Hutchinson, who won Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, hopes to top his personal best of 49.6 meters in the javelin.
