MISSOURI CITY, Texas - In his second career collegiate match, Wiley University men's soccer player Christopher Haeger scored his first career goal. A late foul led to a 2-1 defeat against North American University Saturday at Ronald Thornton Junior High School.
Haeger put Wiley on the board for the first time this season, scoring off a pass from Rintaro Sakai to tie the game in the 61st minute. Habimana Janvier had a scoring opportunity in the 80th minute but was blocked.
The Wildcats were called for a foul just outside of the box. The shot went just above Melvin Bonilla's outstretched hand in the 88th minute. Wiley was outshot 8-4. Both teams put two shots on goal. Jayce Graves put one on goal in the 23rd minute but it was stopped by North American's goalkeeper Gino Burioni.
Wiley had more corner kicks with three to the Stallions' two. Only 10 fouls were called but eight cards were issued, including one red on North American University.
The Wildcats will continue their first road trip on Monday when they take on Texas Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m. The Rams defeated Jarvis Christian University for its first win of the season after falling in the first two.
