Ota, Hapisu powers Men's Soccer to first victory since 2018
Wiley College men's soccer players Takumi Ota and Immanuel Hapisu recorded hat tricks to lift the Wildcats over Arlington Baptist University 7-0 for their first victory since 2018 Saturday at Pemberton Field.
Wiley College (1-6) won its first match since October 18, 2018, and recorded its first shutout win since October 21, 2017. The seven goals were the most scored by the Wildcats since October 19, 2017. Ota started the scoring in the 12th minute on a pass from Habimana Janvier. He scored his second goal off a rebound from a shot by Peter Tu in the 23rd minute. Ota completed the hat trick in the 75th minute scoring off a pass from Alejandro Sanchez.
Hapisu ended any hope of a second half comeback from Arlington Baptist with three second half goals. He scored in the 47th minute off a pass from Janvier. His other two goals came off passes from Kevin Rosales in the 53rd and 65th minutes. Janvier picked up his second goal of the season in the 38th minute off a pass from Juan Reyes.
Santos Perez and Aurelio Navarro each played a half at goal. Perez didn't see much activity in the first half as the Patriots only put up two shots and both were not on goal. Navarro stopped three shots in the second half.
The Wildcats outshot the Patriots 28-6 and 17-3 in shots on goal. Takumi and Hapisu each had five shots with four on goal. Wiley College had four corner kicks while the Patriots only had one. There were 13 fouls called and three yellow cards issued.
Wiley College wraps up the homestand on Monday against Texas Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. The Rams have won their last three matches with their most recent 3-2 over Texas A&M University-Texarkana on September 11.
