Men's Basketball tips off 2026 against Paul Quinn, Huston-Tillotson
Wiley University men's basketball returns from the holiday break with Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) games at Paul Quinn College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and at Huston-Tillotson University at 3 p.m. Saturday.
This week's games will mark the first time the Wildcats have met the Tigers and Rams in conference play since their final season in the Red River Athletic Conference in 2021-22. Wiley and Huston-Tillotson played in the 2024 Austin Area Urban League HBCU Classic, with the Wildcats taking a 73-58 victory. They will host both teams at Alumni Gymnasium on January 22 and 24 for their final home games of the season.
The Wildcats (1-11, 0-4 HBCUAC) return to the court for the first time since December 13, when they fell 89-79 to Philander Smith University. Shamir Mosley erupted for 22 points, marking his fifth career game with 20 or more points. He continues to be the only Wildcat averaging double figures at 15.2 points per game. Cortez Collins recorded his first career double-double with career highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds while also adding four blocks. He continues to lead the HBCUAC with 34 blocks, averaging 2.8 per game. Wiley hopes the break allowed it to reset and get healthy. LaRonte McHenry missed the last two games. Donavan Seamster was also inactive. The Wildcats seek their first victory since taking their Homecoming game on October 25.
The Tigers (5-8, 1-3 HBCUAC) are coming off a 78-70 loss at Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Sunday. They are hoping to reverse their fortune in the second half of the season, with Huston-Tillotson their only conference win in four games. Isaiah McCallum, who transferred from Rust College, leads the Tigers with 11.8 points per game. He is followed by Mekhi Johnson, who is posting 11.3 points and a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game. Rhasod Ballard is notching 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
The Rams (5-7, 0-4 HBCUAC) are searching for their first conference victory. They are coming off an 83-67 victory over Hastings College on December 16, which snapped a five-game losing streak. Jaylen Streeter leads Huston-Tillotson with 10.8 points per game. Caleb Campbell follows with 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Shannon Robinson is the leading rebounder with 5.2 per game.
Wiley is seeking its first road victory since February 13, when it beat Southern University at New Orleans.
