Men's Basketball ends season in HBCUAC Quarterfinals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Wiley University men's basketball team finished the 2024-25 season in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) 2025 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship quarterfinals. It fell 72-54 to No. 1 seed Stillman College Friday at Birthright Alumni Hall.

The Wildcats finished the season 10-14 as it exited in the quarterfinals for the second straight season. They were outshot 46.4 to 42.1 percent and shot 2-for-17 from 3-point territory while Stillman hit eight of 14 three-point attempts.

In the first five minutes, Wiley only made one field goal and trailed 13-4. It cut the margin to two with 6:26 left in the first half on two shots made by Demarius Pitts and a layup by Cortez Collins which was assisted by Jalen Bates. The Wildcats only made two field goals the rest of the half and trailed 31-23.

Stillman (18-10) hit three 3-pointers to widen the margin to 13 points. Layups by Tayvion Fisher and Raymond Guillory cut the margin to eight. The Tigers immediately pushed the margin to double digits and the Wildcats could not keep pace as it trailed by as many as 22.

Shamir Mosley and Taj Toney led Wiley with 10 points. Mosley added three rebounds and an assist. Toney contributed five rebounds. Guillory provided eight points and five rebounds. Pitts tallied eight points and three rebounds.

The game was the final for Toney, Guillory, Pitts, Devon Barshow, Bobby Baker III, Tre Booker, Jalen Bates and Treagan Lockett. With starting guard Mosley, Fisher - who averaged 13.2 points per game and Collins, who increased his production in the last month of the season, gives head coach Joseph Flegler, who finished his third season, pieces to build around. He will hit the recruiting trail to bring in players that will add depth and hopefully, lead to a deeper run in 2025-26.
