Men's Basketball faces Philander Smith for Intense HBCUAC Showdown

The Wiley University men's basketball team is set to clash with Philander Smith University at 7 p.m. Thursday inside Alumni Gymnasium for a game that has potential to swing the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference regular season race.

The game will stream on the Wiley University Channel on the Urban Edge Network. Fans can watch online or through the free application available for download on streaming devices. Live statistics will also be available with the link listed in the men's basketball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Wildcats (8-8, 6-6 HBCUAC) sit in seventh after defeating the University of the Virgin Islands on Saturday. They are looking to avenge their 72-66 overtime loss against the Panthers on January 13. Wiley rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half and took a six-point lead with 3:04 left. Controversial calls shifted momentum to Philander Smith. Shamir Mosley has scored in double-digits in his last three games, including his third career game with 20 or more points, scoring 22 on Saturday. With three starters out, the Wildcats got impact performances from Bobby Baker III and Raymond Guillory. Baker provided 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds and Guillory added 11 points and four rebounds.

Wiley hopes to limit Raymond Reece who averaged 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last week, en route to claiming HBCUAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. Amorey Womack torched Wiley for 21 points in the January 13 meeting. The Panthers are ranked fourth in the HBCUAC and have won the last two games. The Wildcats are looking to snap a three-game losing streak against the Panthers and get their first victory since February 15, 2023.

A win on Thursday, could help the Wildcats climb into the upper echelon of the HBCUAC standings. The game will be a "Black Out" as Wiley hopes to pump up the home crowd and celebrate Black History.
