Men's Basketball opens road trip at Virgin Islands
The Wiley University men's basketball team will begin a three-game road trip with its first game outside the continental United States when it takes on the University of Virgin Islands at 6 p.m. Central Standard Time Thursday.
The game will be broadcast on HBCU+ on the Virgin Islands and Wiley University channels. The broadcast can be streamed online or via the app on a phone, tablet, or Smart TV.
The Wildcats (10-10, 6-6 GCAC) have won their last two and three of the last four, moving into a tie for fourth in the conference. Delor Johnson averaged 25 points per game. Tayvion Fisher averaged 18.5 points per game. Jalen Bates tallied six assists per game. Demarius Pitts picked up his second double-digit rebounding game with 12 against Oakwood University.
Virgin Islands (3-12, 1-8) are on a five-game losing streak after a 67-59 loss to Dillard on Thursday and an 84-83 loss to Southern University at New Orleans on Saturday. It holds a half-game lead over Oakwood for ninth.
Maurice Smith Jr. leads the Buccaneers with 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Jalil Langston follows with 14.5 points per game and leads the team with 1.6 steals per game. Naythan Shaw-Clarke is averaging a team-high 3.6 assists per game.
After Thursday's game, the teams will rematch at Alumni Gymnasium on February 12.
