Men's Basketball rematches against Dillard, SUNO
The Wiley University men's basketball team tips off the second half of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with rematches against Dillard University on Friday and Southern University at New Orleans on Saturday in Alumni Gymnasium.
Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. tipoffs. They will broadcast on the Wiley University channel on HBCU Plus, which can be viewed online or the application can be downloaded on your phone, tablet or Smart TV.
The Wildcats (7-9, 3-5 GCAC) are looking to bounce back after falling to Philander Smith University for their second consecutive defeat. They are tied for sixth in the conference standings, trailing Dillard by a game for fifth.
Delor Johnson led Wiley with 12 points on Saturday. He still leads the GCAC in scoring with 21.9 points per game. Demarius Pitts and Christian Beeke followed with nine.
Wiley overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat Dillard 89-81 in overtime on December 1. On December 2, the Wildcats overcame a 14-point deficit to win 73-62.
Dillard (8-7, 4-4 GCAC) split its games last week with a 70-67 loss at Fisk University on Friday and a 71-58 victory over Oakwood University on Saturday. Tory Cargo recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday. Justin Warren led the team with 24 points and six assists on Friday. In the December 1 game against Wiley, Warren had 19 points and six rebounds. Cargo tallied 18 points and five rebounds.
Southern-New Orleans (2-16, 2-5 GCAC) split its games last week - defeating Oakwood 76-61 for its second victory of the season. It fell 86-76 at Fisk. Jamal Gibson averaged 25 points and 24.5 rebounds per game. He earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and GCAC Player of the Week. In the December 2 game against the Wildcats, Gibson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Chaun Moore led the team with 19 points.
Friday will be Dillard's first visit to Alumni Gymnasium since December 14, 2021. The Wildcats lead the series 8-7 - dating back to the 1967-68 season. Wiley is 10-5 against the Knights and 5-0 at home.
