
Men's Basketball struggles against No. 4 Langston
LANGSTON, Okla. – The Wiley University men's basketball team struggled to hit shots and was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 75-59 loss to No. 4 Langston University Wednesday at the C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats (4-4) were outshot 42.6 to 38.3 percent, including 30 to 13.3 percent from 3-point territory. Wiley was outrebounded 42-34, including 13-6 on the offensive glass. Langston outscored the Wildcats 15-0 on second-chance points. It won the turnover battle 20-17. The Lions had more production from their bench outscoring Wiley 30-7 in bench points.
Demarius Pitts and Delor Johnson led Wiley with 15 points. Pitts added two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Johnson contributed three rebounds. Jalen Bates recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Wiley University trailed nearly the entire game. It didn't hit its first field goal until 14:26 left in the first half. This allowed Langston to quickly build a double-digit advantage. The Wildcats wouldn't get closer than five points and trailed 41-23 at halftime.
Trailing 60-44 with 8:11 remaining, Pitts scored and was fouled. He followed with a 3-pointer. Johnson scored off a pass from Pitts to pull the Wildcats within six points. They would not get closer as they only made one field goal in the last six minutes of the game.
The Wildcats will return to the court on December 1 to open Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play at Dillard University.
