Baseball takes series against Stillman in Convincing Fashion

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The defending Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season champion Wiley University baseball team decisively defeated the Stillman College 15-5 to win their second Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference series Saturday at Tiger Field.

The Wildcats (11-6, 5-1 HBCUAC) take their fourth consecutive conference series dating back to last season. They pick up their seventh double-digit victory. The win improves their record to 5-6 on the road.

Wiley received contributions up and down its lineup with five players recording multiple hits. Smauri Abram recorded two-hits including a three-run triple that broke the game open in the fifth inning. He scored twice. Jacob Perez went 2-for-5 with a RBI double. He scored twice and batted in two runs. Ivan Del Villar recorded two runs batted in base hits and scored twice. Eddie Garza tallied two hits, including a double - which started a three-run sixth inning. Ajari Camp pinch hit in the eighth inning and finished the game with two hits, two runs and two RBI.

The Wildcats broke the game open in the fifth inning. With one out and the scored tied at two, Perez singled, Ryan Ready got hit by a pitch and Del Villar reached on an error to load the bases. Armand Daigre delivered the go-ahead run with single to right - setting up Abram's bases-clearing triple.

Stillman answered with two runs on three hits and a hit batter. Jalen Porter took over on the mound and had runners in scoring position with one out. He preserved the lead by striking out the first two batters he faced.

Wiley responded with three runs in the sixth inning, increasing their lead to five. Garza doubled and scored on Ready's two-out single to left. Ready stole second and came home on a single by Del Villar. He stole second and scored on an infield single by Jhan Carlos Javier.

Porter delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, securing his first victory of the season. He held the Tigers to just one run and one hit while striking out nine over 4.2 innings. His prowess was a significant factor in the Wildcats' defense that stymied the Tigers' lineup throughout the game. Nick Rodriguez started and pitched 4 1/3 innings.

Wiley will return home and face Texas A&M University-Texarkana in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Coker Field.
