Del Villar, Burciaga win Week 2 HBCUAC Baseball Weekly Awards
Wiley University's Ivan Del Villar wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Baseball Player of the Week and Isaac Burciaga claims Pitcher of the Week. The gentlemen were recognized for their performances from February 3-9, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Del Villar hit .643 and had a 1.286 slugging percentage in four games this week. Five of his nine hits went for extra bases. He became the second Wildcat to hit for the cycle in the second game against Arkansas Baptist on Friday. All four of his hits came in the second half of the game. Del Villar had multiple hits in three games. For the week he scored 10 runs, drove in 10 and stole four bases. He is tied for the conference lead with two home runs and ranks second to his teammate Ryan Ready with 12 RBI.
Burciaga picked up his second win and pitched five innings in a combined no-hitter against Arkansas Baptist on Saturday, which is the second in program history. He struck out six batters and only allowed two base runners. He retired the side in the second, fourth and fifth innings. He is tied for the conference lead with two wins and ranks third with a 1.20 ERA.
This is the third weekly award won by the Wildcats. Keyon Guillory won Pitcher of the Week last week.
