Baseball looks to bring home the 2024 GCAC Baseball Tournament Title

JACKSON, Miss. - After winning the GCAC Regular Season Title and securing the No. 1 seed, the Wiley University baseball team looks to defend its rank as it begins the 2024 Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship against No. 8 seed Philander Smith University at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hank Aaron Sports Academy.

The Wildcats (24-17) are seeking their first conference tournament title in program history and advance to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Opening Round for the first time since 2007. Wiley dominated Philander Smith last week, outscoring the Panthers 33-8 in the three-game series.

Ryan Ready went 6-for-9 with two home runs, five runs and seven runs batted in. He earned Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his performance. Jacob Perez went 7-for-12 with five doubles, five RBI and three runs scored. Ivan Del Villar hit two home runs to become the first Wildcat to reach double-digits since 2012.

All three starting pitchers threw complete games. Jaylen Cream picked up his third win with four strikeouts. Keyon Guillory threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 12. He won his fourth GCAC Pitcher of the Week award and also won NAIA Pitcher of the Week. In his second start, Nicholas Rodriguez struck out six, picking up his fourth win.

The Panthers (2-30, 2-19) are looking to end a 13-game losing streak. Their last victory was March 25 against Oakwood University. Noah Siedenschwarz went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI in Game 1. Aaditya Sur got a hit and scored a run. Chandler Morrow got a hit and a RBI. Andrew Sells homered in Game 3. Brett Marcel had the best pitching performance for the Panthers holding the Wildcats to a run on five hits in Game 2.
