Ready claims second GCAC Player of the Week Award
After helping the Wiley University baseball team clinch their first conference title since 1982, Ryan Ready wins Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for April 15-21.
It's the second time Ready has won. His first award was for the week of March 18-24. This week, he went 6-for-9 with two home runs, five runs 97 and seven runs batted in against Philander Smith University. His two home runs came in the first game against the Panthers on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with six RBI. He recorded two hits in game two. In the finale on Sunday, he stole two bases, including home, and drove in a run with a ground ball to short.
Ready's two home runs move him into second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. He's also second in RBI with 52, which ranks in the top 40 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Ready ranks third with a .397 batting average. His performance helped the Wildcats sweep Philander Smith to clinch the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Regular Season title.
This is the eighth GCAC weekly award won by the Wildcats. Keyon Guillory repeated as GCAC Pitcher of the Week, also winning the award for February 4-10 and March 4-10. Ivan Del Villar was Player of the Week for March 4-10. Jhan Carlos Javier won Player of the Week for March 11-17.
The Wildcats will open the 2024 Hope Credit Union GCAC Baseball Championship against Philander Smith at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hank Aaron Sports Academy.
