Ready wins GCAC Player of the Week
After belting three home runs and leading the Wiley University baseball team to another Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series sweep, Ryan Ready wins GCAC Player of the Week for March 18-24.
Ready went 9-for-14 with 12 runs batted in and eight runs scored. He went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and five RBI in Monday's series finale against Tougaloo College. He followed the performance with four hits in five at-bats in the series opener against Rust College on Saturday. His biggest hit was a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning, becoming the first Wildcat to hit a walk-off home run since 2015. In the second game on Saturday, Ready went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, three runs and two RBI. He scored a run in the finale.
After last week's games, Ready ranks second in the GCAC with 32 RBI and ranks third in batting average (.431), slugging percentage (.736) and home runs (five). With his award, Wiley has won the last three GCAC Player of the Week awards. Jhan Carlos Javier won last week and Ivan Del Villar won for March 4-10. The award gives the Wildcats five GCAC Weekly honors as Keyon Guillory won Pitcher of the Week for February 4-10 and March 4-10.
The Wildcats (14-13, 9-0 GCAC) are on an 11-game winning streak and are first in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. They host Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Tuesday and travel to Oakwood University for a three-game series on Thursday and Friday.
