Baseball hosts Williams Baptist in three-game series

The Wiley College baseball team will play a three-game series against Williams Baptist University Friday and Saturday at Airport Park.

Friday's game will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will start at noon. All three games will have live stats. The links can be found in the baseball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Wildcats (7-9) are coming off a 9-8 come from behind victory over Arkansas Baptist College on Tuesday. They overcame being outhit 15-6 and allowing four home runs. Luis Mares recorded the go-ahead base hit with a two-run single in the eighth. Jhan Carlos Javier and Ivan Del Villar had run-batted in base hits. Kai Woodard brought home a run with a sacrifice fly. Four runs scored on bases loaded walks or hit by a pitch.

Wiley College got solid relief outings by Luis Chapa and A.J. Garcia. Chapa struck out four in three innings and Garcia held Arkansas Baptist to one run in the last two innings to pick up his first career victory.

Williams Baptist (10-11) is coming off a split against Blue Mountain Christian on Tuesday. It won three of the last four sweeping a doubleheader against Champion Christian College on March 4. Jarron Brantley leads the team with a .333 batting average. He has 19 hits with five doubles and a triple, scoring 13 runs and driving in 12. Dezmond Cordova follows with a .327 batting average. He scored 20 runs with eight RBIs. Cordova has stolen 11 bases in 12 attempts.

On the mound, Noah Willingham has won four of five starts with four complete games. He has only given up nine earned runs, eight walks and struck out 24 in 32 innings. Cole Doke is 3-2 and struck out 32. The Eagles have a 6.55 team earned run average.

This series will mark the first time the Wildcats and Eagles have met on the diamond. After this weekend's series, Wiley College will embark on a 16-game stretch away from home.
