Baseball drops series opener against Texas A&M-Texarkana
TEXARKANA, Texas – Wiley College third baseman Traylon Ansley (FR/Houston, Texas) got three hits but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell 15-1 against Texas A&M University-Texarkana Saturday at George Dobson Field.
Ansley singled in the second, fourth and seventh innings. The rest of the team went 3-for-21 and was 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The Wildcats got their only run in the third inning. Colby Chilek (FR/Boling, Texas) led off with a single. Maurice Thompson IV (FR) courtesy ran. He advanced on a passed ball and a grounder. Wiley College attempted a double steal and Thompson came home on the throw to second.
On the mound, the Wildcats (1-19-1, 1-9) only held the Eagles scoreless in the first and third innings. They gave up three in the second, seven in the fifth and four in the sixth. Roman Sorrell (JR/Beaumont, Texas) started and went 4 1/3 innings. Daniel Cox (FR/Dallas, Texas) tossed the final 1 2/3 innings. Wiley College gave up 15 hits and Texas A&M-Texarkana benefited from eight walks.
The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
