Volleyball takes on Fisk in GCAC Quarterfinals
The Wiley University volleyball team will compete for the 2023 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship title as it opens against Fisk University in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Monday in Bossier Parish Community College's Coach Billy Montgomery Gymnasium.

The Lady Wildcats (6-17) enter the tournament on a two-match losing streak after dropping the regular season finale against Philander Smith University in three sets on October 28. Brayleigh Mitchell recorded 10 kills for her ninth double-digit performance. She ranks third in the GCAC with 2.59 kills per set.
Wiley University dropped both matches against Fisk this season. It lost in three sets on the road on September 15, being outhit .202 to .117 and outscored 37-27 in kills. At home, the Lady Wildcats fell in four sets. They allowed a seven-point lead slip away in the fourth set.
Fisk (19-13) won 15 of its last 18 matches, including a sweep over second-place Dillard University. Iyanla Thigpen claimed her third GCAC Attacker of the Week award after recording 29 kills in two matches. Jadyn Brackins won her fourth GCAC Defender of the Week award with 45 digs in two matches.
This is the Lady Wildcats' second appearance in the GCAC Volleyball Championship. They reached the semifinals last season – marking the seventh consecutive season they've advance to that point or further.
Monday will mark the first time that the Lady Wildcats and Lady Bulldogs have met in the postseason. The winner will face second-seed Dillard University at 6 p.m. Monday.
