Hernandez, Rodriguez land on Preseason All-HBCUAC Team
Wiley University women's soccer players Yajaira Hernandez and Samantha Rodriguez earned the respect of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) women's head soccer coaches as they earned spots on the 2025 Preseason All-HBCUAC Team, the conference announced on Thursday.
The conference's head coaches nominated and voted for players. The top goalkeeper, top four defenders, and forwards and the top three midfielders made the team. Hernandez is entering her fourth season and helped restart the program. Last season, she led the team in shots and shots on goal and finished second in scoring with five goals. She recorded a hat trick against Tougaloo College (Sept. 8) and scored the game-tying goal against NCAA Division III school Centenary College of Louisiana (Sept. 25). Hernandez earned Continental Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for September 23-29.
Rodriguez played valuable minutes as a freshman and scored twice in eight matches. She hustled every time she was on the field. During the spring, her leadership was invaluable as she earned one of the team captain positions. Both players were key to their two victories.
