Women's Basketball hosts Tougaloo for Senior Night Clash

The Wiley University women's basketball team is set to host a critical Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference game against Tougaloo College on Thursday at Alumni Gymnasium.

Prior to the game, the Lady Wildcats will honor its six seniors, Mary Leday, Celebria Peacock, Kewaysha Alsup, Jessica Nerestant, Elizabeth Camacho and student assistant coach Diamond Hawthorne, who played from 2021-2023. The game will be streamed on the Wiley University Channel on the Urban Edge Network. Fans can view online or download the free app to their favorite streaming devices. Wiley (11-10, 7-6 HBCUAC) is looking to continue to gain ground in the HBCUAC standings as it's on a five-game winning streak and currently ranked fourth. It is hoping to even the season series against the Lady Bulldogs after falling 70-47 in Tougaloo on November 23. The Lady Wildcats haven't lost at home to the Lady Bulldogs since 2006. Head Coach DeWitt Mandley praised his seniors.

"Our seniors have profoundly shaped this program, on and off the court," Mandley said. "Tonight, we celebrate their hard-earned success and aim for a significant win against a formidable opponent."

Leday has consistently hit double figures in her four of her five previous games and has led the team in scoring in three of the last four. Nerestant posted double-doubles against Philander Smith and Arlington Baptist to give her 10 for the season. Their performances could be pivotal in edging Wiley past a strong Tougaloo squad that sits in third in the conference standings.

JaSharreah Hunt, who has averaged 16.5 points per game, and Brayland Ferguson, who led her team with 19 points in their last game. She scored 14 in the November 23 game. Morgan Williams had 15 points and Rodreckia Parker tallied 12.

With this being the final time playing in front of the home crowd, the atmosphere at Wiley University is charged with excitement and anticipation, ready to offer a memorable night of basketball and celebration.
