Women's Basketball heads to Fisk, Oakwood

The Wiley University women's basketball team continues Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with games at Fisk University on Thursday and Oakwood University on Saturday.

Thursday's game will tip at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday's game will start at 6 p.m. Live video and statistics will be available and the links will be listed in the women's basketball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Lady Wildcats (8-3, 3-0 GCAC) opened conference play with three victories, marking their best start since 2015-16. They are one of two teams unbeaten in GCAC play. Head coach DeWitte Mandley won WHoopDirt.com NAIA Coach of the Week. They defeated Talladega College on November 28 with a last-second 3-pointer by Jamiya Eaddy. It edged Dillard University 61-56 on Saturday behind Eaddy's 21 points. Diamond Hawthorne and Jay'lann Myles recorded double-doubles to lead Wiley past Southern University at New Orleans in overtime. Cailan Hale had double-digit performances against Talladega and SUNO.

Fisk University (3-6, 1-1 GCAC) split its conference games with a 72-58 loss at Rust College and an 80-60 win at Tougaloo College. Maya Buckhanon picked up her second GCAC Player of the Week award. She is averaging 22.7 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. Jayla Bibbs earned Newcomer of the Week after averaging 17 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.

Oakwood University (3-7, 1-1 GCAC) split its conference games with an 80-64 loss at Tougaloo College and a 71-46 victory against Talladega College. Nekya Williams leads the Ambassadors with 13 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Trenisha Adams follows with 11.8 points per game.

The Lady Wildcats lost both games against Fisk University, which were at neutral locations. They will make their first trip to Nashville. Wiley University won both games convincingly over Oakwood. Saturday will be its first trip to Huntsville.
